A New Start

Today will be a new start. I open my eyes before the alarm clock goes off. Excitement is an understatement. Last night I made a promise to myself, I will become the person I always wanted to be. I will become a person I can be proud of.

I set my feet to the ground beside my bed and wiggle my toes. No MS symptoms today. That’s a good sign!

Ten minutes later I am finished brushing my teeth and ready to get out the door and head to the gym.

I get downstairs, open the blinds and to my surprise we have 4 inches of snow outside. Damn snow, you cant stop me! Its my new start!

I get dressed, go outside, and remove the snow from my car.

A little frustrated, I finally get to the gym and I am ready to burn off some of that well deserved winter weight. I step from my car, try to open the door to the building, and the gym is closed…

Back in my car, I begin to get a head ache. My new start is looking more and more less likely.

Driving back to my home, my chest starts to feel tight. Wow, today has not turned out the way I planned.

When I arrive, I walk up the stairs to the front door, slip, fall, twist my ankle and it knocks the wind out of me.

What has happened to “the beginning of a new me”? Goodbye new start, hello normal day.

Do you know how many times this has happened to me? More times than I would like to admit. I decide that I want to begin a new habit and start living a life I can be proud of… only to fail. Something gets in the way and I am set back another day from my dreams.

I think this happens to us all far too often then we would like to admit. That is why I created the FAIL method, a 4 step plan to get you and I back on track during those rough days.

F – Fight away the emotion. It is just one day and one moment of weakness, not a life time of failure.

A – Agree to start over. Remember why achieving your goals matters so much to you.

I – Implement a new plan. How soon can you start over? Today, tomorrow, next week?

L – Laugh. Quite often the best medicine is laughter. Find it somewhere, somehow.

This simple 4 step process has saved me from the insanity of not achieving my goals. Try it out and let me know what you think! I hope that this can help you create the new start you have been wishing for.
